Autotransformer
 

The autotransformer is a special transformer, in which the primary and secondary windings are on the same winding, and the original and secondary windings are directly connected in series for self-coupling. This design makes the low-voltage coil of the autotransformer part of the high-voltage coil, with direct electrical connection between the primary and secondary sides.

The coupling of an autotransformer refers to electromagnetic coupling. Compared to ordinary transformers, which transfer energy through electromagnetic coupling between the primary and secondary coils, an autotransformer achieves voltage transformation through direct electrical connection between the primary and secondary sides.
